Jon Moxley Returns

AEW Collision kicked off with the returning Jon Moxley taking on Shane Taylor. Before the match, highlights of Moxley’s match against Shingo Takagi last weekend at NJPW Battle in the Valley were shown, marking the first time in recent memory that New Japan highlights were aired on AEW television. Lee Moriarty was cornering Shane Taylor and got a shot in behind the referee’s back early in the match.

Moxley won with the bulldog choke after Shane Taylor passed out and referee Stefon Smith called for the bell. After the match, Mox got on the mic and said he was “pissed off and hungry beyond belief” and any teammate or colleague of his had to “keep the hell up”.

Great move to being back the rankings. Thought it was a bad idea to get rid of them in the first place as it differentiated AEW from WWE.

There’s also no Dark or Dark Elevation now so it prevents people from racking up wins against jobbers and having lopsided records.

Still don’t like the idea, but that may just be because we’ve never seen it done in a meaningful way, because I DID like the idea until we saw WWE and later AEW both attempt it then largely ignore it.

I’d like to imagine they’ll take lessons learned from the C2, and how to manage rankings / making wins and losses help tell stories, and incorporate that. Rather than running up the scoreboards with Dark wins, etc.
