Wednesday’s cable figures were a positive sign for AEW and NXT with the programs posting two of its best figures during the empty arena era of shows.

AEW was bolstered with the post-pay-per-view buzz from Double or Nothing along with an advertised appearance from Mike Tyson and saw their best number since mid-March.

Dynamite averaged 827,000 viewers on TNT and 0.32 in the 18-49 demographic, making AEW tied for third for the night among all cable programming. It was the group’s highest audience since March 18th, which was the first empty arena show.

AEW was up 18% in viewership and 23% in the main demographic.

NXT countered with a cage match involving Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher with Kurt Angle as the special referee and Charlotte Flair teaming with a mystery partner against Io Shirai & Rhea Ripley. The show increased 23.5% in total viewers with 731,000 and was up 46% in the 18-49 demo with 0.19.

For viewership, it was NXT’s highest mark since the February 19th episode that featured Velveteen Dream vs. Roderick Strong.

The male audience helped to spike AEW’s numbers with 12-34 males increasing by 73% this week while males 18-49 improved by 29%. They had one decrease with females 12-34 dropping 8%.

NXT did not finish in the top fifty cable programs last week, so we cannot compare their fluctuations this week. This week, they finished 24th for the night among cable programs.

AEW won every demo except adults over 50 where NXT beta them 0.36 to 0.30.

Next week’s episode of AEW will feature Chris Jericho vs. Colt Cabana, and two title matches as Cody defends the TNT title against Jungle Boy, and Hangman Page & Kenny Omega defend the tag titles against Jimmy Havoc & Kip Sabian. NXT will counter with Drake Maverick vs. El Hijo del Fantasma for the Interim Cruiserweight title and Candice LeRae vs. Mia Yim advertised.

If AEW Dynamite and NXT are opposites on the Wednesday Night Wars, would AEW Dark and Impact Wrestling be on the Tuesday Night Wars?

Can’t wait until the Impact guys ride a tank to Jacksonville, only to realize that TNA and Dark were taped on different days… two months ago.
