WWE had a rare title change on a house show Thursday night at Madison Square Garden with Andrade becoming the United States champion.

Rey Mysterio was defending the title against Andrade when he came off the top, Andrade got his boots up and then hit the hammerlock DDT and pinned Mysterio.

It’s Andrade’s first title win on the main roster after becoming NXT champion in November 2017 and held it until April 2018.

Mysterio has been champion for the last month, defeating AJ Styles on November 25th during an episode of Raw from Chicago.

On the WWE website, they stated that Andrade received the U.S. title shot at Mysterio after winning the Gauntlet Match on Raw last week in Des Moines, Iowa. The Gauntlet match ended with Andrade hitting Humberto Carrillo with the hammerlock DDT on the exposed cement on the floor. Carrillo was taken out on a stretcher while Andrade retreated through the crowd without a finish to the match.

[sarcasm] It seems to me they are booking on the fly with Rey, even since his previous US title win. It’s like they don’t know what to do with him. [/sarcasm]

Add another person to the confused Rey booking bandwagon, but God dam am I stoked Andrade won. Love the dude.

It was a useless title that was used to pop a smarky crowd…don’t over think this
