ASK-A-WAI: Questions Thread

Any chance of an American Vandal S02 review on the horizon?

O/U All In Zero Hour will do a .90 rating Live and with delayed metrics do over a 1.0

O/U All In does 250k buys combined (keep in mind BTE has around 230k subscribers)

Can we see All In beat several UFC shows in terms of buys on ppv?

What kind of fight are you expecting from Darren Till vs Tyrone Woodley? The last 2 Woodley fights have been huge snooze fests for casual fans like me, so I hope Till tries to attack and land some strikes.

p.s. Summer Slam in Toronto next year! How do you guys feel about having 4 days of back to back wrestling in your city?

Dan From Caliornia with a question:

Hey guys, I absolutely love the best of & worst of shows at the end of each calendar year. I am glad they carried over to the new site. How much prep do you put into each year end show? John, I notice you go back pretty early into the previous year as needed. How much fun are these shows for you guys? Thanks, keep up the wonderful post office work!

With Tokyo hosting the Summer Olympics from July 24th until August 9th, what impact do you see this having on the Japanese wrestling scene? Most notably New Japan’s G1 Climax tournament which is normally held late July to early August and that year will be the 30th Annual edition.

First and foremost, congratulations to you guys for the number one ranking on whatculture website. You guys do tremendous work for us, the fans. So thank you for everything you guys do and will continue to do!

Now the question…with the fox deal looming in 2019 with WWE,do you guys see any of the big four ppv being of interest to fox as specials?

One wrestler you want to see, or think will be in the ROH MSG main event?

Will any of the figures get released all in? (Gate, ppv buys, or if it was a financial success for Cody and the young bucks)

Hi Guys,

I was a law listener since the Jeff Marek days. It is nice to finally be here.

I was wondering if Wai Ting could give me travel advice. I will be going to Hong Kong with my wife in a few months. I know that Wai has been there. I will be there for about a week.

Any unique places to check out or favourite places to eat at? Which Islands are worth checking out?

Thanks for any and all help. Keep up the great work.

Hey, i wondered if you had any idea whether Kaz and Daniels have ever been approached by the WWE?

I hated them originally when I got into TNA. I think Daniels was involved with Styles at the time… before the Claire Lynch debacle. I soon realized I hated them so much because they were both awesome heels and they became my favorite thing on TNA at the time.

They would be such a great addition to either brands tag division so I just wondered why they weren’t?

Hi guys, I was wondering if you could give some insight into the process surrounding getting interviews with wrestlers or MMA fighters. I can imagine that when it comes to WWE there are lots of hoops to jump through.

I recently listened to your interview with Guy Evans, John, and really enjoyed it. Any plans or interest on your end to do more interviews going forward?

Thanks guys.

I noticed a Modello ad on Raw today, Modello is also a sponsor of Lucha Underground, and furthermore a drink for individuals over the age of 21. Do either of you see WWE moving away from toy sponsors (or at least those which are aimed at children in department stores vs those aimed at adults through alternative means) toward sponsors aimed at adults, giving them more leeway to create the kind of product that those who consume indie wrestling are more used to? I guess a simpler question is where do you two see Modello (which my friends and I call Model-Zero) fitting in with WWE’s Larger marketing plan?

What do you think about the idea of after Lucha Underground ends its run (hopefully that is awhile from now). Some of the same people involved could make a show that works by having both wrestling and fancy video segments, but with different influences. So instead of their current fight club / b-movie / comic book setting it was something more specific in style (ex: a post apocalyptic setting such as Mad Max). Do you have any thoughts on ideas, settings, or influences that might be fun to build a wrestling show around?

Out of all of the MCU films so far, who are your favorite characters and what would you like the MCU movies to have post Avengers 4? (Example, small crossover films like Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy)

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your great work. For someone that hasn’t watched a full RAW or Smackdown since about 2003, the show is always a great way of keeping track and is a can’t miss.

I’m currently listening to Review a Raw from September 10. John mentioned low key and Aqua in one sentence. Given how incredible it was when John verbalised Low-Ki in a porno a few years back, can we ask for Low-Ki performing an Aqua song.

Thanksssssssssssss

Imran from Huddersfield

Apologies if this is a dumb question or the answer is well known, but back in the 90’s why didn’t one of Nitro or RAW just air on a different day? Surely if one was on Monday and one was on say Wednesday, then they could have co-existed quite easily? Or was it a pride thing that meant neither show switched days.

There’s been some debate on the forums recently about Alex Riley. Where do you guys stand when it comes to him?

After hearing John talk about other Japanese promotions besides New Japan with WH and about CMLL on the Destruction review, I was wondering if you guys knew how the promotions in different countries and regions stack up to each other in regards to success (both critical and commercial), or if you could ask WH or the BWE crew when you get the chance? I know New Japan is far ahead of the pack in Japan, but I read conflicting pieces on how All Japan or Dragon Gate or DDT is #2. In Europe I hear about Progress, Rev Pro, ICW, and wXw, but I really don’t know who’s the hottest right now or most successful overall, financially and creatively. I don’t watch WWE so I feel like I have the time to explore other wrestling, and I want to see what other promotions are doing and who the emerging stars are who may make it stateside sooner or later.

BTW I watched the CMLL Anniversary show and loved it; I know you guys are beyond swamped and likely too burnt out on wrestling to consistently watch lucha, but have you ever thought of contacting Luchablog/thecubsfan to check in or for a roundtable? He or she is an invaluable resource for English-speakers interested in the Mexican wrestling scene. Thanks, joMo.

Kaz was in the WWE for a cup of coffee wasn’t he?

I seem to remember him on Velocity one time.
