Bryan Alvarez just came out and said that most people believe it’s a blatant double standard and MJF wasn’t suspended because in Brawl out both sides were essentially susoended despite Punk starting it .
He’s saying the disciplinary committee is a sham and MJF got off because of who he is.
The part that rubs me the wrong way (if true) is a male talent entering the women’s locker room because of an issue a female talent had with his girlfriend. If baker was saying inappropriate things, you go to Tony or whomever is the person to go to and you make a complaint. The fact that he’s the biggest star in the company and gets off scot free while she gets suspended just makes it feel like he’s a powerful man using his power to come down on a woman he doesn’t like.
When’s the last time WWE had something like this? Or TNA? Or literally anywhere else in wrestling. There’s one common denominator - the boss. It’s getting embarrassing at this point.
I mean, yesterday their United States champion made a total ass of himself and brought a lot of negative attention to the company to likely no recourse. And I wouldn’t count him losing a belt as punishment.
I mean, that’s pretty unprofessional. I also think the main difference between WWE and AEW is one is the primary brand and the other is a secondary brand. CM Punk went from mouthing off to William Regal, ranting on stage and punching EVPs to being a little church boy. One place has a reputation where everyone walks on eggshells and the other is a lot looser.
Tony may need to be more strict, but than wrestlers get a bug up their ass and then leave because AEW is the secondary promotion.
Rock got to swear like a sailor when others couldn’t and Logan Paul can be the dipshit of the year because they don’t need WWE.
If Britt Baker leaves it won’t make a difference at all. Same with talent like the oft-suspended Sammy Guevara. Just get rid of the headaches, not worth it.
Or identify who the leakers are and punish/get rid of them. I’m sure things have happened elsewhere but those places are run by people who know how to make sure people keep quiet.
Guevara talked about raping Sasha, recklessly injured both Hardy’s, got into a dumb online argument with Andrade and got in a fight with Eddie Kingston and he just got to collect a paycheque at home. Now he is slumming it in ROH. No consequences for a repeat offender, it’s a joke.
I think Baker could do a lot more in WWE than she can in AEW. She can actually promo a bit and talk that shit as a heel and sound believable doing it, which is more than you can say for most women in AEW. Plus with WWE her dog shit matches wouldn’t stand out as much in a sea of other dog shit women’s WWE matches. Not saying she’s gonna set the world on fire but I’d expect her to get further than someone like Guevara who brings very little to the table for a storyline-driven company like WWE.
It’s a perception thing. Losing Shawn Spears and Ethan Page isn’t some major deal, but it’s the perception of WWE scooping up AEW talent. It’s the same when AEW was on fire in 2021 and everyone was leaving. I think once he gets his deal, he might be more willing to tell people to go fuck themselves when he’s more secure.
That’s why I have some sympathy for Tony when it comes to the Punk/Elite issue. He was desperate to make everyone happy because losing either would be devestating to AEW.
…And platformed transphobic, sexist, and misogynistic misinformation (along with Pat MacAfee as well). But paying attention to negative WWE stories doesn’t get the clicks or engagement these days (because VINCE IS GONE and it’s a flawless company).
Just another week and another nothing story surrounding AEW, generating tons of noise. What are we up to on this thread? 40 posts now?
