As much as the man himself is a very polarizing figure these days, I’ve always respected Dave Meltzer as a trailblazer in wrestling reporting and history and he has written a ton of tremendous newsletters over the years. Growing up, he’s been one of my influences in getting into sports writing myself in high school and college newspapers. He is the wrestling historian on record
The first issue I ever read was the November 17, 1997 edition which arguably had the most in-depth coverage of the Montreal Screwjob and I thought his reporting and analysis was excellent to read about. Other favorites included obituaries whenever he did a deep dive on those who unfortunately passed away, the Andre the Giant biography that really stuck out to me.
For those who subscribe to the Observer, are there any favorite issues that you’ve read which stick out to you?
