Tonight’s episode reminded me a lot of the Smackdowns before the 2016 brand split, but with better wrestling. A lot of established stars that you would see on Dynamite in enhancement matches. I’m normally ok with those type of matches as I remember Dynamite had a bunch of enhancement matches in 2020 against an NXT Mania special and they crushed NXT. But tonight seemed like it was more of an obvious winner in every match. The main event was excellent. Malakai Black is great, but I think he will never be pushed as a top guy in AEW due to what happened with Triple H’s tampering allegations in 2022. Because Malakai showed his hand in wanting to be released, I think Tony just doesn’t want to push him to his potential. He’s still talented, but I think this is the level he will be at for the rest of his AEW tenure. He’s good enough to lose a high-profile match here and there. And of course, just like they tried to make fetch work, somehow AEW is trying to make Jericho work. I can see maybe they just want to get the match over with, but having FTR or any other strong tag team fight for the tag titles would be better. I hope AEW just wants to beat Jericho and send him away for a while, but as the old saying goes, you can hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up faster.
