This week, it’s the return of Rewind-A-Wai on Friday.
This week we review Night 3 of last September’s PWG Battle of Los Angeles tournament. This was selected by Espresso Executive Producer @Contrasoma.
Leave us your feedback to the show and any questions.
This show will be available for Patrons later this week.
It’s only officially available on DVD/Blu-Ray right now: http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/merch/index.html
PWG’s limited model of release is something we’ll likely discuss in the review.
EDIT: See post below.
Hey guys, Robert here. I have been going to PWG shows since 2006 and have been to at least one of the BOLA shows each and every year but 2018 was the first time in four years where I managed to get tickets for all three nights. But Night Three of the 2018 Battle of Los Angeles is one of the top five shows I have ever seen in PWG.
Trevor Lee was a lot of the fans favorite to win it all walking in and many thought that after he knocked off Brody King he would finally reach the mountaintop. However, Jeff Cobb crushing him in less that 30 seconds was one of the most stunning things I have seen in PWG.
After that it was the Bandido show as his matches with Flamita and Joey Janela made him the crowd favorite going into the final match, which made it all the more heartbreaking when Cobb ( who was just as popular as Bandido) hit the top rope Tour of the Islands and then a second one to clinch the BOLA trophy
Despite all that, to me the MVP of the entire weekend was Shingo Takagi, who had five outstanding matches the entire weekend starting with his tag match with Ilya Dragunov against Walter and Tim Thatcher on Night One and the tournament match again Dragunov on Night Two being the best matches on those shows. However, his Night Three matches against Robbie Eagles, Walter and the finals with Bandido and Cobb were my top three matches of the weekend.
Being there live, after the finals ended not only did I think that it was my favorite BOLA final ever, but I would have it in my top ten of best PWG matches. Rewatching it on DVD and my mind has not changed one bit.
10/10 show just viewing it by itself but is even better if you manage to see the first two nights before watching Night Three
I stand corrected. Had the toughest time finding this.
I’ve been watching every wrestling event that I can track down that happened over Mania week, so I took a break to watch all three nights. Speaking of Mania weekend, I really, really want to hear you guys review Joey Ryan’s Penis Party.
I feel like with Mania weekend growing into what it has become, BoLA has lost a lot of the allure it once had. There was some amazing matches all weekend long, but there was nothing that couldn’t have happened in New York 2 weeks ago. I was blown away by how many guys on this card have been signed to exclusive contracts only 7 months later. I wonder who will be allowed to show up next year.
I did have a question about CIMA that ties into the event. During one of their matches, Excalibur said that CIMA’s main focus was in growing the OWE brand world wide, which is what I’ve always been under the impression was his main goal. But recently AEW announced CIMA was working full time now. Do you know if his commitment to OWE changed? Or is he exclusive in North America to AEW?
Thanks.
