My 90-minute cut of RAW was enjoyable as usual. There’s been an uptick in promo quality on this show between Cody, Sami, Punk, Drew, Gunther, and even Rollins being able to have free rein. Some of the brief backstage promos also continue to help characters get their personalities across. However, Ripley still has the training wheels on and they don’t trust her on the mic. Her promos are still packed with these cringe catchphrases. There is a bit of Tsuruta-Misawa to the Lynch-Ripley dynamic of the aging prizefighter having to fend off father time to beat the best of a new generation. I don’t have hopes for this build or their ability to tell this story unless they let Rhea and Becky speak English instead of Group Focus-ese.
