Five title bouts confirmed.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling is heading towards their Wrestle Kingdom 19 event at the Tokyo Dome on January 4th. There was a press conference held on 11/6 and five championship matches were confirmed for the show.

It is official that Zack Sabre Jr. will be defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Shota Umino. In addition to that, it was announced that Ren Narita is going to be putting the NJPW World Television Title on the line in a three-way featuring Jeff Cobb and Ryohei Oiwa.

Here is the full lineup for Wrestle Kingdom 19 as of this writing:

  • IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Zack Sabre Jr. (c) vs. Shota Umino
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: DOUKI (c) vs. El Desperado
  • IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship: David Finlay (c) (w/ Gedo) vs. Yota Tsuji
  • NJPW World Television Championship — Three-Way Match: Ren Narita (c) vs. Ryohei Oiwa vs. Jeff Cobb
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships — Four-Way Match: Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA (c) vs. T.M.D.K. (Robbie Eagles & Kosei Fujita) vs. Catch 2/2 (TJP & Francesco Akira) vs. BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney)
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. EVIL

I haven’t watched new Japan in a minute, but that’s the main event they expect to fill the Tokyo dome? I’ve never even heard of the other guy. There has to be some big match that isn’t an announced.

No this is New Japan’s desperate attempt to push their “Four Musketeers” of this generation and doing a TERRIBLE job at it!

I was thinking about this. Maybe Shota should go away for awhile. Put him in AEW with the Death Riders for maybe a year then bring him back. Bruce Lord’s description of him as being Poochie doesn’t help matters.
