Hiroshi Tanahashi revealed that he has signed a new deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The 46-year-old stated in his blog that he has signed a new deal, although the terms of the agreement were not released by Tanahashi or the company.
‘The Ace’ started his career in New Japan in October 1999 and rose to become its flag bearer by winning his first of eight IWGP heavyweight titles in July 2006. The following year he won his first G-1 Climax with additional tournament victories in 2015 and 2018.
As the company expanded its international footprint on the streaming platform Ustream, and eventually, New Japan World, it was Tanahashi’s series of matches with Kazuchika Okada that greatly elevated the company’s standing out of the dark days of the mid to late 2000s. His matches with Okada included a match of the year award from Tokyo Sports in 2012, and receiving the same honor from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in 2013 and 2016.
Tanahashi’s next major singles match takes place on 2/11 at New Beginning in Osaka when he faces KENTA.
