John Cena gives his take on WWE relying on their part-time stars.
It was made official this past Friday on SmackDown that John Cena will be challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam. Cena is currently on tour with WWE and is going to be with the company through SummerSlam to the Madison Square Garden show in September.
Cena made his return to WWE at Money In The Bank after being away since April of 2020. On top of his duties with WWE, he is also making the media rounds to promote The Suicide Squad which releases on August 6th. Cena spoke to USA Today and further spoke about his role in WWE. Cena wishes he could be a full-timer and added that the longer WWE continues to bet on their aging prospects, it will make their future less stable.
Man, I wish there was some sort of fountain of youth where I could be a full-time contributor. The longer they continue to bet on an aging prospect, that makes (WWE’s) future a little bit less stable.
In addition to Cena versus Reigns, there is a Raw Women’s Title and WWE Championship match scheduled for SummerSlam and here is the card as of this writing:
- Raw Women’s Championship — Triple-Threat Match: Nikki A.S.H. (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley
- WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. John Cena
- WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley (c) (w/ MVP) vs. Goldberg
