Mark Briscoe holds onto family and faith in the midst of tragedy.
The main event of AEW Dynamite this week was Jay Lethal taking on co-holder of the ROH World Tag Team Championships and ROH Hall of Famer Mark Briscoe.
The match was to celebrate the life of Mark’s brother Jay, who passed away last week. Members of the AEW roster and staff came out on stage after the match to embrace Mark.
Caprice Coleman, who was on the call for the bout, shared a video of himself, Mark and Mark’s wife in an airport today and Mark spoke about the importance of family and talked about his faith. He said there’s no way he could have kept going in wrestling without his brother by his side for their journey but now, it’s time to carry on for Jay.
Hey, y’all already know, family is — been beyond important to me, my life. 23 years, me and my brother been riding the roads, hitting towns, different countries, you know what I mean? And ain’t no way that I been wanting to do this for this long if I ain’t have my boy with me the whole time but now, it’s time to carry on for him, you understand what I’m saying? Family is beyond — this life is temporary, it’s a temple. Let’s focus on the eternal, not the temple. My brother ain’t here with me, I brought my beautiful wife here with me. But my brother ain’t here with me as he normally has been, normally would be but he’s still with me right here (in my heart) and he ain’t gone. If I thought he was gone, then I wouldn’t be no good. I know he ain’t gone. I know he just moved on to the next higher level of existence so, you know what I mean? That’s what keeps me pushing forward.
