MLW has put out a notice regarding its new “open door policy” on future shows for the growing list of free agents in the market.

The company has earmarked slots on upcoming shows for non-contracted talent as that list continues to grow after myriad cuts by WWE since April 2020.

This concept will be introduced in December.

From the release:

Major League Wrestling (MLW®) today announced that the league will install a new open door policy. The policy, engineered to deliver dream matches against MLW’s top contracted competitors, will commence this December.

Recognizing an unprecedented free agency market, MLW will open its doors to all who think they have what it takes to be major league and take on MLW’s greatest grapplers and champions.

While the majority of MLW’s roster features contracted competitors, a percentage of each card will now feature free agents, ensuring exciting and unpredictable matchups.

MLW will be running a show with The Crash in Tijuana, Mexico on December 3rd and will hold their first event of 2021 on January 21st at Gilley’s in Dallas, Texas.

I prefer Open Door to Forbidden Door, given how things aren’t so forbidden.

This announcement could play into Will Ospreay set to appear at their show in New York next month.

I appreciate MLW… But this is just how independent wrestling operates. There are literally hundreds of promotions which an “Open Door Policy” exists.

And ROH is going to join them in this, provided they return in earnest in April.

If anything, seeing another promotion with contracted talents going this route is a bad thing. ROH and MLW both looking like they’re getting out of the contract business.
