Music to my ears

We have a couple of topics dedicated to other shows we’re watching, other sports, etc. So I thought I would start one about music.

Especially since there has been a lot of music news the past couple of weeks.

Oasis: After 15 years Oasis have announced a reunion tour for 2025 in the UK. The news around the reunion has been the shock of it occurring at all followed by tickets going on sale with insane ticket prices.

Linkin Park: 7 years after the death of singer Chester Bennington the band has gotten back together with a new lead singer Emily Armstrong. They have a new album coming out in November and have done a couple of live shows.

Sean Combs arrested: Also known as Puff Daddy, Puffy, P. Diddy, etc has been arrested and is in jail with a bond denied for a whole ton of bad stuff done by him and his company in sex and drug trafficking.

Anybody know of any other stories I might have missed? What are your thoughts on the return of Oasis and Linkin Park? Or just what are you listening to right now?

Dave Grohl putting out a statement like a disgraced politician.

Can’t wait for 50 Cent’s Netflix doc on the Diddy situation. Nobody on Earth is as petty as 50. This shit is gonna be wild.

I didn’t even know this was a thing but apparently it’s real. There’s no date attached though for when it will ever come out.

Not to diminish the victims or the hope that justice is served, but after 40 years of life (and 34 of those as a wrestling fan), I have no tolerance for reading/hearing this kind of stuff anymore. It just makes me sick and sad.

Oh yeah I forgot about that instagram post.

The question is does this impact or change how anybody feels about the music?

Any Weezer fans? I’m planning on going to the Blue Planet tour and curious how the old album sounds today.

There was some initial pearl clutching. But my personal take is that obviously nobody should mess around behind their partner’s back, and it’s shitty that he did. But am I going to be indignant that the lead singer in a rock ‘n’ roll band had a consensual extramarital affair? I am not.

Is P.Diddy the Brutus Beefcake of the music world, with the amount of name changes this guy has had?

If you go to the show, enjoy!!!

Stranded on an island. You brought an MP3 player with you and it only has room for five albums.

Which are you picking?

The last few albums I’ve heard were The Force by LL Cool J, Megan by Megan Thee Stallion and AZ’s Doe or Die and Pieces of a Man

Without being cheeky and choosing five super long Grateful Dead or Phish concert releases…

  1. Black Sabbath self-titled
  2. Fleetwood Mac - “Rumours”
  3. Phish - “Lawn Boy”
  4. Dave Matthews Band - “Under the Table and Dreaming”
  5. Frank Zappa - “Hot Rats”

Honorable mention to the Beatles, Grateful Dead and Warren Zevon. But no one album of theirs makes the cut here.

DMB over Abbey Road?? Interesting.

I’m a big weezer fan. I’ve loved a lot of their albums and have seen them a couple of times live.

But I’ll be skipping this tour. I’ll be honest, when I saw them live they were a bit disappointing. Some bands exceed expectations when you see them live and some bands fall below it and for me weezer was one later.

Like RocketKing said there’s an urge just to pick the 5 longest albums I can think of. Or just my five favorite albums.

But to be more fun If I was stuck on a desert island would want five upbeat and hopeful albums with a variety of genres.

  1. Beatles - #1 - Greatest hits
  2. Green Day - American Idiot - Punk
  3. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American - Emo
  4. Metallica - Ride the lightning - Metal
  5. Taylor Swift - 1989 - Pop

Totally agree. I saw them live before and wasn’t blown away. They were fine just nothing super memorable

I saw Weezer open for Foo Fighters back in 2006 (?). Maybe they’re different when they are headlining, but I felt like it was just like listening to the album in a big arena. No “antics” that necessitated being at a live show. Only cool thing was that they played “Big Me”, which apparently Foo Fighters don’t really like to play.

Foo Fighters were great, even though they were touring on the “In Your Honor” record at the time, so they played a lot of a new songs that I didn’t know. But they still got in all of the hits, and then brought out Roger Taylor from Queen for their encore, which was pretty surreal for me.

If Weezer is a band that slightly underdelivers then Foo Fighters is a band that overdelivers and and is incredible live. Dave has such incredible stage presence and the band is full of songs and jams that make every live show a different experience.

I loved “In Your Honor” and would have been thrilled to see them in 2006. Instead I’ve seen them twice on two different tours. One of which was this year and even with the band in their 50’s they still kill it.

If we’re speaking “critically,” I’ll take Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s, Revolver, Rubber Soul or Let It Be. But if I’m throwing something on for my commute, it’s probably Under the Table and Dreaming over all of those.
