POST IT NOTES

**Earlier this week, I was part of the Content Talks Toronto panel discussing the business of podcasting. The panel was hosted by Michael Smith and included Sal Patel from the Toronto International Film Festival, Ryan Freeman of Lossless Podcasts and Jennifer Keesmaat’s Invisible City podcast, and Kristian Borghesan of The Art of the Fail podcast. We have made the panel audio free for everyone to hear at https://www.postwrestling.com/2018/11/11/content-talks-toronto-podcasting-nov-6-2018/.

**This week’s EGGSHELLS Podcast Companion show features Chris Charlton welcoming Joel Abraham from The Super J Cast from the Voices of Wrestling network. The two dove into Wrestle Kingdom 3 from January 2009 and discussed the state of New Japan, the involvement of TNA, the main event between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Keiji Muto, early impressions of Kazuchika Okada and more.

**WH Park has a great feature on the site comparing New Japan’s World Tag League lineup with All Japan’s Real World Tag League. WH also isolates the matches from both tournaments that are worth your time over the next month. WH can be heard monthly on POST Puroresu here at POST Wrestling.

**Wai Ting and I are back Monday night with Rewind-A-Raw to review Raw and we will also chat about tonight’s ROH Global Wars show that we will be attending in Toronto.

**If anyone wants to do a report for next Saturday’s UFC card from Argentina for the site, please message me [email protected].

WRESTLING NEWS

**Cody noted Saturday that he heard a pop in his knee in Buffalo on Friday night. He will be unable to wrestle tonight in Toronto for the Ring of Honor Global Wars card and is getting an MRI this week to determine the damage. He said he turned to throw his t-shirt into the crowd and heard a pop but went through with the match teaming with Hangman Page against The Briscoe Brothers and Best Friends. Cody will still be traveling to Toronto for the pre-show meet-and-greet. He was scheduled to defend the IWGP United States title against Beretta and no announcement has been made regarding the match.

**Here is the line up for tonight’s Global Wars event at 7 pm Eastern from the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto and streaming on Honor Club:
*Jay Lethal vs. Kenny King for the ROH title
*The Young Bucks vs. KUSHIDA & Chris Sabin
*Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky vs. Super Smash Brothers for the ROH tag titles
*Tetsuya Naito & Bushi vs. Juice Robinson & Bushi
*The Briscoe Brothers vs. EVIL & Sanada
*Hangman Page vs. Chuckie T.
*Christopher Daniels vs. Matt Taven
*Jonathan Gresham vs. Flip Gordon
*Karen Q. vs. Kaitlin Diemond

**The WWE wrapped up their European tour today with the final show in Glasgow, Scotland at the SSE Hydro. The Raw crew finished up Saturday and will be in Kansas City for the tapings Monday night. They have announced Brock Lesnar and Stephanie McMahon will be on the show and they will have to get everything announced for Survivor Series next Sunday. The SmackDown tapings are Tuesday in St. Louis at the Scottrade Center. The crew is off the rest of the week until Survivor Series.

**Northeast Wrestling presented a huge card on Friday in Poughkeepsie, New York at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center. The card was headlined by Kenny Omega and Fenix with the two going all out for the 25-minute main event. The match ended with a tornillo by Fenix that was caught and turned into the One-Winged Angel and Omega won. I’ve only seen the main event but was told the Pentagon Jr. vs. Darby Allin match was very strong as well. We have a report on the main page from listener Mitch in New Jersey, who attended the show.

**New Japan announced Saturday that Jeff Cobb missed the Lion’s Break Project 1 card due to a flight delay. He was scheduled to headline the show in Anaheim against Hirooki Goto and was replaced by ACH.

**Ric Flair appears at the Hamilton Ticats games on Saturday against the B.C. Lions.

MMA NEWS

**Here are the full results from Saturday’s UFC Fight Night event in front of an announced crowd of 11.426 and a gate of $946,706 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado:
*Mark de la Rosa def. Joby Sanchez by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27)
*Eric Shelton def. Joseph Morales by split decision (30-27, 27-30, 29-28)
*Devonte Smith def. Julian Erosa by KO at 0:46 of Round 1
*Davi Ramos def. John Gunther by rear-naked choke at 1:57 of Round 1
*Bobby Moffett def. Chas Skelly by TKO at 2:43 of Round 2 – this was the most controversial finish of the night. Moffett applied a D’arce choke and referee Tim Mills called the fight despite Skelly appearing to be aware of what was going on and didn’t believe he was in danger. Skelly popped up instantly and protested the finish. Instant replay is allowed in Colorado where the referee can determine if the fight should be ruled a no contest if the call was incorrect, but Mills stood by his original decision and Moffett was declared the winner.
*Ashley Yoder def. Amanda Cooper by split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28)
*Mike Trizano def. Luis Pena by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
*Maycee Barber def. Hannah Cifers by TKO at 2:01 of Round 2
*Beneil Dariush def. Thiago Moises by unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-26)
*Germaine de Randamie def. Raquel Pennington by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Donald Cerrone def. Mike Perry by armbar at 4:46 of Round 1
*Yair Rodriguez def. Chan Sung Jung by KO at 4:59 of Round 5

**The card featured one of the greatest finishes to a fight in MMA history. The featherweight main event between Chan Sung Jung and Yair Rodriguez was going into the final seconds with most seeing Jung being seconds away from a decision nod. Jung charged towards Rodriguez, who lifted his right elbow to smash Jung and put him out with one second remaining to win the fight by knockout. Before the knockout, it was one of the better fights of 2018 and combined with the ending should be in heavy consideration for best fight of the year and I think it’s a lock for knockout of the year. Judges Sal D’Amato and Derek Cleary had Jung ahead 39-37 going into Round 5 and Mark Van Tine had it even 38-38. I felt Rodriguez was winning the fifth round before the ending but regardless, Jung would have won at least by a split decision. The finish is tied for the latest stoppage in UFC history with Demetrious Johnson’s armbar submission of Kyoji Horiguchi at 4:59 of Round 5 in their flyweight title fight at UFC 186 in April 2015.

**The co-feature was historical as well as Donald Cerrone submitted Mike Perry to take sole ownership of two UFC records. Cerrone earned his 21st victory in the UFC and that surpasses Georges St-Pierre and Michael Bisping on the all-time list. It was also his 15th stoppage win and that surpasses the totals from Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort. Cerrone slipped off Perry’s back and caught him with an armbar from underneath, was slammed down by Perry with Cerrone locking on the submission tighter for the tap. Perry stated he broke his arm in the fight. Cerrone stated after the fight he is moving back to the lightweight division and wants to go after Khabib Nuramagomedov’s title. After Cerrone failed to win the lightweight title in December 2015, he moved up to welterweight and has fought ten times at the higher weight. He has gone 2-4 in his last six fights, including the first stretch of his career losing consecutive fights with three losses to Jorge Masvidal, Robbie Lawler, and Darren Till in 2017.

**The Fight of the Night bonus was obviously reserved for the main event between Yair Rodriguez and Chan Sung Jung. Rodriguez also picked up a Performance of the Night bonus along with Donald Cerrone for $50,000 each.

**The UFC will hold their first card in Argentina next Saturday in Buenos Aires. The main event is a welterweight fight between Neil Magny and Santiago Ponzinibbio, the latter has won six straight and is from Argentina.
