Bummer.
He was one of the best.
Too many memories to count.
i meet him last year at the montreal comiccon, he was such a nice guy and could talk to you for hours about his career if you ask him too. He was the voice of my childhood and will be miss.
A month ago or so I heard a whole different take on Mean Gene from Ted Robinson, who is the radio voice of the 49ers, former Mets broadcaster, he does tennis and the Olympics as well. They had worked some sports events together in Minnesota way back in the day (80s I think) and Mean Gene had offered Robinson a way into the wrestling broadcast business. He turned it down but said Mean Gene was a very prepared professional and he had brought Robinson in to a promo taping once to show him the business. Robinson said Andre kayfabed him but that’s a story for another day.
RIP Good Brother. If there’s an afterlife, Mean Gene is already interviewing Macho Man.
The thing about him was credibility.
What he said mattered and unlike today’s announcers he actually had a voice people cared about and respected.
He was so underrated in the nWo era of WCW, and felt like such a big star especially in the early months of that era.
RIP to a legend
Well this sucks.RIP Gene
