Originally published at https://www.postwrestling.com/2023/01/10/rewind-a-wai-123-wwf-wrestlemania-viii/

John Pollock & Wai Ting review WWF WrestleMania VIII from April 5, 1992, featuring Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Vicious, Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair, and Bret Hart vs. Roddy Piper.

They discuss Flair vs. Hogan not occurring at the event, whether Papa Shango truly missed his cue in one of the worst WrestleMania main event finishes of all time, the tale of two blade jobs between Bret Hart and Ric Flair’s matches, and the many scandals affecting WWF in a period that necessitated significant changes within the company.

This event was chosen by Espresso Executive Producer, Jake Simpson.

I experienced many WWF PPVs via scramble-vision as a kid, including pretty much the entirety of Wrestlemania X

Bret and Roddy working the blade job backstage to avoid a fine is awesome. That was a fun little excerpt.

I used scramble vision for 5 years when it came to wrestling pay per views. Like John said, it really didn’t matter to me because I was already a huge baseball fan and listened to Tigers games on the radio. Funny to hear him talk about this in the opening, I needed to know what happened that night and not wait for video rental or magazine article months later.

I watched many of scrambled wrestling…and other things back in the day. But i was also lucky that my parents had a black box,so i got to checkout alot of free ppvs, but this wasn’t one of them. We got that box in 93 or 94.
But i do remember watching this for the first time about 2 months after the actual show happened. I was at my uncle and aunts house, and they’re next door neighbor had it recorded on vhs. So he lent it to them and we watched it.

Its definitely only a 2 match show(Piper/Hart)(Savage/Flair) the main event wasnt that good. Mind you back then i popped for the Warriors return,Warrior got me into wrestling in 88-89,being a 4-5 year old he just seemed so cool.

But yeah,wm8 is not one of the manias i go back to watch very often. I might have seen it 3 times.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched this PPV and I think I’ve worked out why.
This was the year I got into wrestling so the VHS was never in Blockbusters. I watched the previous WMs loads and loved WM 9 and 10. But don’t think I’ve ever seen this…
Just watched Bret vs Piper, what a match. Bret was my hero as a kid. I was just thinking how awesome it would be to see him wrestling today with Bryan and Omega. His elbows looked so lethal. Loved the review :ok_hand:
