  • ‘Mr Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff (c) def. ‘The Widowmaker’ Barry Windham
  • Andre The Giant & The Twin Towers def. The Ultimate Warrior & Demolition via Countout

IN OTHER NEWS

  • Demolition remain perhaps the most over act in professional wrestling but with the loss to the Twin Towers at Summerslam, there must be a title match between the two teams forthcoming
  • Harley Race lost a career vs title match to Orndorff at Saturday Night’s Main Event a couple of months back. It’s expected he’ll surface in WCW at some point
  • Randy Savage has declared that he owns Hulkamania as Hogan hasn’t been the same since The Mega Powers broke up. There are rumours that Savage will be keeping Zeus on as some added muscle for the time being
  • Cowboy Bob Orton was said to be living on borrowed time in WCW but recently squashed the uber protected Magnum TA. Can the former WWF World Champion turn it around? He’s still just only turned 40
  • The Ultimate Warrior is still supposedly a pet project of Vince’s but a lot of weeks go by without any sign of the former Dingo Warrior.
  • Hacksaw Jim Duggan’s heel turn seems to be an overwhelming success with the IC title a reward for a job well done. It’s curious to see how Bret will do as most expect him to get a run with the upper tier of the card after transitioning the belt from DiBiase to the newly christened ‘James Duggan’.

IN OTHER NEWS

  • Demolition continue to be the biggest draw in the WWF. It’s said that the 2 masked men just sweat money. Vince went so far to make Ax the King of the Ring in a very poor tournament this year that saw him defeat Warlord in the final
  • There are several who had expected Nikolai Koloff to leave WCW as his contract was coming up but he’s reportedly very happy with the level of push he’s sustained in the last 2-3 years and is fired up for the sport as ever
  • Randy Savage has been all but invisible since defeating Hulkamania soundly at Summerslam. There has been a Steel Cage match challenge issued by Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake against Savage and Zeus at Saturday Night’s Main Event later this month
  • Cowboy Bob Orton has finally been let go by WCW and it’s expected that this is the end of the road for the cowboy. Where does the former WWF World Champion place amongst the greats?
  • The Hart Foundation have reformed and they appear to be eyeing a Wrestlemania spot in their native Canada against Demolition, whose reign is well over 600 days. However, Andre and Haku have recently formed a team and there’s an argument to be made there as well.
  • It appears that Kevin Sullivan is being set up for a future Main Event run against Magnum T.A. now that Flair vs Magnum has been done yet again
  • A super heavyweight called ‘The Canadian Earthquake’ recently debuted as a plant on a WWF Superstars taping. Vince is said to be high on the big man but there’s so many projects that sit underwhelmingly off to the side - chief among them, The Ultimate Warrior.

The world keeps turning as professional wrestling hits the 1990s. While both Turner and McMahon are producing fairly straight-forward grappling, Turner has the workhorses while Vince may have the more colourful characters. One thing is certain though. Turner has the biggest name in wrestling with Magnum T.A.

It seemed as though the WWF were going for a bit of a renaissance with Hulk Hogan as the emerging contender for Paul Orndroff’s world title at Wrestlemania VI in Toronto, Canada, but Roddy Piper emerged to attack his old running mate, Orndorff at the conclusion of a successful title defence by Mr Wonderful over Rick Rude at The Main Event. This has caused a bit of a late day shuffle.

The 3rd Royal Rumble was won by Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart. This has thrust the Hart Foundation into the spot of #1 contenders and everyone thought that would be against Demolition and their 600 plus day reign but there’s been a flipping of the switch and The Colossal Connection are the new tag team champions thanks to a February taping of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Finally, the Intercontinental Championship sits around the waist of The Genius after an odd heel vs heel matchup on The Main Event. Duggan was getting more babyface reactions the longer his run as IC champ went and now he’s firmly back in the old Hacksaw moniker.

  • Dusty Rhodes def. Macho Man Randy Savage
  • Hulk Hogan def. The Million Dollar Man via DQ
  • Hercules def. Earthquake via Submission
  • Demolition def. The Midnight Express in 2 Minutes

In a shocking turn. Bobby Heenan turned on Andre and slapped him after taking the fall during the tag title match. Andre then slapped Heenan around to the delight of the crowd. Andre then left the ring to the adoration of the Toronto crowd. Andre has retired from the ring.

Those in the know are having a hard time justifying using Piper over Hogan for the Main Event of Wrestlemania VI. Hogan’s gotta be the odds on favourite for the Main Event slot at the upcoming Summerslam card.

What a season of turnover. The WWF is spending all the bank to bring forth the most stacked roster in the history of professional wrestling.

In the course of one month Vince McMahon’s WWF has had Kerry Von Erich (now monikered as the Texas Tornado), The Road Warriors (now the Legion of Doom) and Magnum T.A. sign for his company.

Magnum lost the NWA title to Tommy Rich and has instantly been placed in the Main Event for Summerslam '90 opposite Paul Orndorff

Things in WCW seem a bit also-ran by comparison, the list of champions (besides Rich & Rotunda as World/U.S.) is flushed out by the Original Midnight Express)

In the WWF however, Haku is now the Intercontinental Champion after besting Brutus Beefcake at a SNME taping in July. Randy Savage is now going by the Macho King as he beat Haku for the honour mere weeks before Haku’s IC triumph.

Hulk Hogan seemed again to be the sure bet for the WWF Summerslam Main Event, apparently using his political stroke to defer title shots at SNME. A mistake for sure as the dream match of Magnum vs Mr Wonderful is too good to pass up. Hogan will compete with Earthquake in a rushed program.

  • Magnum T.A. def. Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff to win the WWF World Heavyweight Championship
  • Macho King Randy Savage submitted Dusty Rhodes in less than 30 seconds
  • The Hart Foundation def. Demolition (Smash & Crush) 2 falls to 0 in a Best of Three match to retain the WWF Tag Team Championships
  • The Orient Express def. The Rockers
  • Haku def. Big John Studd to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship
  • Hulk Hogan def. Earthquake in a really good match
  • Mr Perfect def. The Texas Tornado

Magnum ends the reign of Paul Orndorff at 512 days - the longest in the modern era. It’s also said that Turner is breaking out the chequebook to poach Orndorff to WCW as he tries to stem the tide. Orndorff should fit right into the Main Event for Turner while we wonder when Hogan vs Magnum will take place.

It’s said that Bad News Brown has left the federation while Al Perez has jumped back to WCW. Neither man should be missed that much by the brass in Titan Tower

IN OTHER NEWS

  • It’s a complete swap as Magnum T.A. & Paul Orndorff are still World Champions but for the opposite company now.
  • The WWF is in full Hulkamania hype mode and the world is drooling for an eventual matchup between Hulk Hogan and Magnum T.A. The natural place to do the matchup is WrestleMania but this theory backfired last year. Will the WWF go babyface vs. babyface or will they pull a different trigger at the Rumble?
  • Sgt Slaughter has returned to the WWF. There’s talk about a matchup with Magnum but he’s not as over as one would hope.
  • Demolition has added a 3rd member but Ax says he feels great. It was thought he’d be hanging up his boots soon but his back problems seem to be a thing of the past.
  • The Ultimate Warrior & Macho King Randy Savage are also undergoing significant pushes and people shouldn’t be sleeping on Ted DiBiase or Brutus Beefcake these days. The WWF has done a great job building up the Upper Midcard
  • Bret Hart won this year’s King of the Ring tournament - defeating Randy Savage in the final
  • The Survivor Series saw a new debut, The Undertaker. The world is abuzz over the new signing. He was eliminated in the Survivor Series match but it took 3 men to hold him so Piper could put the sleeper on him. There seems to be a budding rivalry between Big John Studd and Taker who had the crowd in a fury as only Studd could knock the Undertaker down

IN OTHER NEWS:

  • WCW recently held their WrestleWar Pay-Per-View and Paul Orndorff is once again atop the Mountain in Turner’s promotion after defeating Nikita Koloff
  • WrestleWar also saw Doom become tag champions for the 2nd time as they defeated The Steiner Brothers soundly
  • After the Royal Rumble, Ted DiBiase blamed Virgil for the loss and Virgil finally had enough and fought back. This is a revisiting of a storyline that felt rushed a couple of years ago.
  • There are those that thought that Boris Zhukov’s run with the company was winding down. However, Vince McMahon is over the moon with how over the former Bolshevik is and seems to have plans with him even after Nikolai Volkoff’s departure from the promotion
  • Hulk Hogan and Magnum T.A. are literally the two biggest stars in the industry and it’s said to go either way how this match will finish. Magnum’s contract status is unknown as of this time. He will either re-sign for a year or he may head back to Turner. The most recent reports suggest he’s heavily leaning towards re-upping with McMahon.
