The review was spot on.

Regarding the “politics”: some believe that Lucas specifically was targeting GW Bush and the post-9/11 war footing in the US. But the movie would have been in post production by then. Lucas no doubt targeted some of the story and dialogue based on the 2000 US election, but to me the movie comes off as a more general critique of US international meddling that has gone on for a couple of centuries (basically everything after the war of 1812).
