New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that Will Ospreay will miss Monday’s G1 Climax show due to a neck injury.

Ospreay is not suffering from any skeletal or nervous issues. His status for the next G1 Climax event on Thursday July 18 will be determined after Ospreay undergoes thorough medical evaluation.

Ospreay was set to tag with Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura against Kota Ibushi, Jushin Thunder Liger & Shota Umino. The new match will feature Umino and Tsuji facing Ibushi and Liger.

Ospreay wrote:

Sorry I couldn’t make it out there guys. I’m in a huge amount of pain right now but New Japan is giving me all the best treatment and taking great care of my health. I’ll do my best to continue the G1.

Ospreay is part of the A Block and is currently 1-1 with two points following a loss to Lance Archer and defeating Sanada on Sunday’s show in Tokyo. His next tournament match is scheduled for Thursday’s show at Korakuen Hall against Kota Ibushi.

This may be part of a clever scheme to give Ibushi more time to heal. After Monday’s show, Ibushi’s next match is his singles vs Ospreay. If that match is cancelled due to Ospreay’s ‘injury’, his next singles match is against SANADA on the 20th, which offers more even more recovery time.

So I’m seeing this as a precautionary reaction for Ibushi and not so much for Ospreay, although he could probably do with the extra recovery time as well as It certainly wouldn’t hinder him (or Ibushi!).

@ShaneSilver very smart to think of that.
And here I was just thinking these guys have no concept of pacing themselves. I hope your right. Plus if the numbers (and my bracket) were right, Ibushi would be getting his win back. Now it could potentially set up a match in the future that we aren’t getting as expected now inthe G1

Dudes only 26 and dealing with another injury.

Work smarter, not harder.
