WWE NXT notes: O'Reilly vs. Cole at Great American Bash, Samoa Joe, Diamond Mine

Following up on TakeOver: In Your House, NXT’s next special is Great American Bash which will air Tuesday, July 6th. The first match announced is Kyle O’Reilly versus Adam Cole. They last went one-on-one at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in an unsanctioned match and O’Reilly got the win. On the 6/22 NXT, both O’Reilly and Adam Cole will be in singles competition. O’Reilly is taking on Cruiserweight Champion KUSHIDA in a non-title match.

Diamond Mine is opening next week. Vignettes have been airing for several months to promote the arrival of Diamond Mine to NXT. The vignettes are based out of an MMA gym.

While O’Reilly and Adam Cole were brawling backstage, William Regal attempted to separate the two but in came the new enforcer of NXT, Samoa Joe. Cole shoved Joe out of his way which led to Cole being choked out with the Coquina Clutch.

Trey Baxter, formerly known as “Blake Christian” made his NXT in-ring debut. He answered KUSHIDA’s open challenge for the Cruiserweight Title. Baxter was unsuccessful in his attempt but was met with a sign of approval from both KUSHIDA and Kyle O’Reilly.

The new Million Dollar Champion L.A. Knight was coronated and officially given the Million Dollar Title by Ted DiBiase Sr. After accepting the championship, Knight attacked DiBiase. Cameron Grimes came to the ring for the save.

Mercedes Martinez was defeated by Xia Li and tossed off the stage by Mei Ying at TakeOver: In Your House. On the 6/15 NXT show, she stated that she is not done with Li or Mei Ying.

Scheduled for 6/22 is a singles match featuring Franky Monet. Monet was present on NXT and she spoke to Robert Stone Brand’s Aliyah and Jessi Kamea before Robert Stone joined in on the conversation. Hit Row’s A.J. Francis and Ashante Thee Adonis are taking on Ever-Rise (Matt Martel & Chase Parker) next week as well.
