ASK-A-WAI: Questions Thread

I wanted to ask…Whats the deal with Zac Ryder?
he won the IC belt the other year and now the tag belts but does nothing on telly. Someone high up must love this guy. He seems like a god guy but that isnt enough for 90% of stars on the roster.
I wondered if you know if he does something special back stage that they appreciate, such as support young talent or anything?
cheers

What is the plan for your coverage of AEW in dedicated podcast form? Do you think you’ll cover the weekly shows if it didn’t go against Raw or Smackdown? I think it’d be a great programming schedule for a Monday/Wednesday/Friday free show with Raw/AEW/SD and free coverage of PPVs and whatnot.

October 25th, 2017 was a sad day; the final ever video podcast you guys put out with the LAW. You’ve done some video versions of the podcast since for Cafe members, but the LAW version was quite well produced. Three questions:

  1. How many guys were putting that together?
  2. Because I can’t see what the time of post was on YT, what was the turnaround time of recording to the video going up?
  3. Thoughts on bringing back video podcasts for free? I’d definitely be up for it (and I would 100% be interested on helping edit video content for you guys if you needed it).

Lucas from Milwaukee,

Question for John. What are you thoughts on Big John McCarthy doing commentary for Bellator? Personally I find him pretty tough to listen too. Seems like he spends way to much time talking about his scorecard (which is usually wrong) instead of breaking down the action. Just seems like he’s better suited for the desk role. Thanks guys!

I am a patron of another podcast as well, when I had a problem Wai had gotten back to me within the day (it was my fault, the problem) but my other patron did not. What makes you have such great service to your members?

I used to be a big fan of Ring of Honor in the mid-late 2000s and MSG was my first real exposure to them after a long dropoff. While there is definitely talent there, this looks like a company in big trouble creatively. What are you guys’ thoughts on ROH at the moment and how do you think they can recover? Not trying to be doom and gloom, but after what I saw at MSG and comparing them to NJPW…ROH looks like a dumpster fire at the moment.

With Wrestlemania week being a big event for all of wrestling and not just WWE, do you think Vince either likes, hates or is in-different about the fact that all these other promotions piggy back off his companies biggest event? And same question but for Triple H.

Thanks for all your work/output in April guys.

Botchamania or Being the Elite?

If you could only have one, which would you keep?

With all the talk of Wheatus over the last few months, I wanted to share a short story and follow it with a question. I am a musician and have played in bands in Ohio for about 15 years. In 2007 (or so) a band I was in got asked to do a favor to a Toledo booker. The favor was to open for Wheatus. We had been a decent draw, but the show was SUPER expensive and in 2007 who wanted to see Wheatus? Furthermore, we had played the same venue the week before at a much cheaper show with a more current band. We loaded our gear in and tracked down the promoter. There were 3 tickets sold in presale, so he said that he would not be paying us, but would go and get us pizza while we were playing. In the middle of our set we see him walk in with the pizza and take it into a room off to the side of the stage. We finished our set and took our gear out. Then headed straight for the pizza room, only to find a completely empty table. We checked all the other rooms in the hallway and there was NO PIZZA ANYWHERE. We tracked down the promoter and he shrugged and said “Guys, Wheatus took the pizza. They took your pizza.”
We took a moment collected ourselves and immediately left for the closest pizzeria.

Ok, I don’t really have a question I just want it to be known that Wheatus are pizza thieves and I will never forgive them.

Hi gents, thanks for all the great shows, a very specialist question you may not have an answer to.

Just over a year ago I was diagnosed with Meniers disease/syndrome. It’s an inner ear issue that causes me attacks where I physically can’t do anything at all for a few hours, alongside permanent tinnitus and hearing loss. It’s not an especially common condition, but one story that keeps coming up is that Dana White also had Menieres, and following some experimental procedure now claims to be cured. This struck me as unusual no one has a single clue how to alleviate the symptoms of Menieres, let alone what causes it or how to cure it.
My question, as I don’t follow UFC, have you ever been aware of Dana struggling with Menieres in public, if so do you know how it affected him? And do you know if his symptoms are still gone following his procedure.

Thank you.

Chris from, Queensland, Australia.

Question for John: I’m more of a casual fan of UFC & will admit I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the UFC’s round scoring system.

But as a casual fan I’ve see fighter’s dominate a round and get a 10-8, then later in the night a evenly fought round between two fighters also get’s a 10-8.

So my question is should UFC judges be scoring bigger point difference if a fighter dominates a round compared to two fighters who have a even round.

Question for Wai: I see you as the bigger Marvel fan between John and yourself, and as you know a Stadium in Melbourne has now been renamed to Marvel Stadium.

I’m not sure how much Marvel items you have in your collection, but would you consider buying a Western Bulldogs (AFL) “Thor-inspired” jumper? The club wore these jumpers as it was the first official match at the renamed stadium and Chris Hemsworth was in attendance, who is a life long supporter of the club.

Below is the design and photo of the jumper:

Piggybacking on some UFC related questions…

Do you think that ESPN+ is going to work as a long term PPV delivery vehicle? I’d like to fancy myself a hardcore fan, routinely purchase PPVs (not all, but when I feel they’re worth it), read about the sport and org all the time online. And yet, at least as of now, there’s a zero percent chance I’m paying to subscribe to a service so I can then pay for a PPV. And that’s not taking into account streaming issues others seem to be having if they don’t live somewhere with a pristine connection.

Basically, very little of this seems thought out. John, did you ever hear anything about this being in the works before it came to fruition?

I remember reading a report a few years ago, that the WWE were considering holding an episode of Raw at Full Sail and then never heard anything about this again. Do you know if this report was true and what are your thoughts on the idea?

I’m just watching Raw 22 April 2019 and I’m bewildered.

Bobby Rude is suddenly Ravishing Rick Rude and beats the awesome Ricochet
Alicia Fox gets a shot against the champ and the crowd just dies when Becky could have faced Beth Pheonix, Natalya, Alexa Bliss or pretty much anyone who would have been better!
Cedric Alexander loses to Cesaro who is suddenly a single competitor and so on and so on…
I just don’t care, how am I meant to care? How are any of us meant to care when they don’t care about the product they are producing.
Do you have any idea why the WWE are struggling so much with writing at the moment? Is there something going on, has someone left that’s making it such a mess?

Would you rather have Shingo Takagi or Hiromu Takahashi in the G1?

Alex from Minneapolis
2 questions.

  1. John, how would rate the Motor City Machine Gun’s 2015-2018 ROH run? towards the end of their tag team run last year their workrate and crowd reaction seemed to dip in comparison to their TNA peak.

  2. Do you guys believe That Dean Ambrose’s 2016 world title win was hampered with his widely panned appearance on the stone cold podcast? Austin implying that Dean was phoning it in as world champion was strenghten following the disappointing Summerslam title match with Dolph Ziggler a few weeks later

Who owns the rights to the uwf catalog? I used to watch that all the time growing up. What ever happened to Iceman king Parsons? I never hear anything about him.

One for John…If you’ve never eaten cereal what did you eat as a kid?
I only ate sausages and fish fingers for breakfast until I was about 14 so I was pretty weird with food, but to have never eaten Corn Flakes!!! I can’t believe it.

I think you should do a podcast where you try a variety of different cereals and give your feedback…I think we’d all love that!

Hi guys,

(my question is not about Grapple Kingdom)

My question for you both concerns potential new viewers of WWE. While I was at Wrestlemania this year I noticed my friend and others like him who haven’t watched WWE in at least a year felt left out of all the tropes and chants at a typical WWE show. They were finding the show hard to follow along with. There’s no attempt by WWE to gain a new audience. My question is this: how can the WWE attract a new audience when there’s so many inside jokes, chants, and storylines?

James from New Plymouth

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I read that Wrestlecon and other indies are possibly getting strongarmed out of Tamps next year by wwe which kinda sucks for fans (like myself) who are heading there next year mostly for wrestlecon. This true?

Wai. Did you see Shazam? I thought it was great.
